Ethan's Mega Update

Since I haven't posted on here in forever. Here's a little update.

Right now it is Monday morning, 7:20 am.

I haven't seen sleep since I woke up Friday morning.

I've basically locked myself in my room for the past 3 days with nothing but my cintiq and

energy drinks (I'm such a hypocrite, making these animations and then drinking these

things), besides the occasional leaving the house to breathe/ eat.

You may ask, "Ethan, my dear and near friend. Why so diligent in working all of a sudden?"

And with that I will answer, As you may know up to this point I have had at least 3 or 4

ideas for this project leading up to where I was last you saw me.

And unfortunately (not really) I am in no way proud of the product I currently had.

So quickly going through character sketches and ideas earlier in the semester

I am revisiting one that I had started animating but left behind.

In this short geared towards a teenage/ college audience, two characters are

compared side by side, one in a positive light that is backed up by healthy life choices, while

the other is seen as negative and has poor health habits.

Nearing my 72nd hour of active working these are a few screen shots to prove I actually am

pushing forward (God forbid I work at home) from the monstrosity I was working with

before. At this point I would say I am about 80% done, needing only as few basic

background assets and character animations.

This is the character design for Shaun (good example). I am very satisfied with how crisp the

style looks as opposed to the previous.

This is the character design for Chad (bad example). He is full of bad attitude and shows that just

because you're not fat doesn't mean you're in shape.

This is a shot of Chad partying and making poor life choices. It's still missing a background, but

was cool to edit in AE.

Woah! Look at all those layers and assets you have to work with there, Ethan!

You must be a really cool guy when it comes to making things in After Effects!

I can't believe you've never used it before!

False.

That about sums it up.

Sugar & Kids Again

Sugar-Sweetened Beverages

.child about to eat a large spponful of sugar
Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) are drinks with added sugar including: non-diet soft drinks/sodas, flavored juice drinks, sports drinks, sweetened tea, coffee drinks, energy drinks, and electrolyte replacement drinks.  The calories in sugar sweetened beverages can contribute to weight gain and provide little to no nutritional value. Sugar-sweetened beverages do not fill you up the same way that food does. Those extra calories can lead to other health risks including obesity, tooth decay, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

What you should know

  • Approximately 11% of the calories youth consume come from sugar-sweetened beverages. (more)
  • Each 12-ounce soft drink per day consumed by children increases their odds of becoming obese by 60%. (more)
  • Among young children, aged 1 through 5 years, consumption of sweetened, carbonated soft drinks was associated with an 80-100% increased risk of dental caries. (more
